2018 Home Plate Patch

We have just received information on 2018 Tigers Home Plate! Home Plate is an amazing Christian outreach program coordinated by Detroit Tigers Chaplin Jeff Totten featuring the testimony of current and alumni Tigers players and other Major League Baseball players and special guests. Included with the Home Plate event will be a game between the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners.

This year’s Home Plate will be a little later in the year, May 12th, which hopefully will provide much better weather conditions than last year’s event. The program will also be later in the day, 12:30pm, and the baseball game will have a 4:10pm start.

The program will include Tigers catcher James McCann, pitchers Matt Boyd, Michael Fulmer, Daniel Norris, Buck Farmer. Third baseman Jeimer Candelario, and outfielder Tyler Collins. It will also include former Tigers Willie Horton, Frank Tanana, as well as Christian recording artist Matt Hammitt. These athletes will be speaking about their careers in professional sports and their faith in Jesus Christ. New Tigers players, wives, members of the Mariners, and other athletes may also participate.

The Tigers have scheduled another on-the-field photo day (between the program and game) on the day of Home Plate. This will allow you the opportunity for close up pictures of players!

You have an opportunity to both attend Tigers Home Plate 2018 and help support The Well Softball Ministry by purchasing your Home Plate tickets from The Well Softball.

Art Houghton a member of our Brighton area softball family. In October his home caught fire and his family lost everything. Even worse, during the fire, Art’s four year old daughter Sophie was trapped in her bedroom which was engulfed in flames until Art was able to rescue her. She suffered 3rd degree burns on her feet and one of her knees and 1st degree burns on her back, and was treated for smoke inhalation.

We are collecting money to help assist the Houghton family in rebuilding their lives and easing the pressure of medical bills. We will be taking your donations and loading them onto a Meijer gift card and presenting it to the Houghton family at the end of the month. This will be a wonderful gift for the Houghton family with Christmas just around the corner.

“if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:8
